P450 Cytochrome Structure

Using Figure 1 as reference simplified the structure of a P450 cytochrome enzyme can be noted that this site has to catch two molecules of oxygen (O2) in the heme site and another molecule that modifies the substrate, which binds directly above the heme group. In the case of Figure 2, corresponds to the cytochrome P450 enzyme from a bacterium Pseudomonas putida name, it appears that is also formed by a-helix (spiral shapes), and leaves b (planar structures), and not so organized segments (as threads in the figure).

Many P450 cytochrome genes encode different versions of the enzymes. For practical purposes, these genes have been grouped into different families (numbers 1, 2, etc.) Subfamilies (letters A, B, etc.), And individual enzymes (numbers 1, 2, etc.). For example the cytochrome P450 induced by 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (dioxin) is given the designation P4501A1 (Shugart, 1996).
